Where foolishness meets a project!

If you read my initial page on my untouchables about my original Talon HSH you know that when I was originally buying them I got 2 at once, and HSH and an HSS (that’s what happens when you leave your sniper program unattended all night!). Since I got both for under $150 each (including shipping) I thought I was getting a pair of dogs, but lo and behold I REALLY think that I have found the undiscovered Jem of the Fender line. Strats are great, but they’re Strats, same with Tele’s, I think almost everyone has “been there/done that”.

So after deciding to keep the HSH, assuming it would give me more tonal creativity, I placed the other back on ebay, and went on about my way! Needless to say, when that HSS sold for $297 I was REALLY happy, and a little curious. How could this seeming “fender Failure” be worth so much when I paid so little? Now I’m a decent wordsmith on the auction block, but still….

So I started spending more and more time with my HSH and I soon figured it out. These things are AMAZING! The necks are REALLY thin without feeling like a toy. The body is much lighter and more evenly balanced than my Strat and a LOT more so than my tele, and the PUPS are Dimarzios so you can’t go wrong!

Of course, having SOLD my HSS, the first thing I needed to do was to get one back to replace it! So I started scouring ebay for one and what I found was that my sale had been SO successful, that it seemed as though almost everyone who HAD a Talon was selling one, but they were all using BUY IT NOWS (I usually don’t) of OVER $200, some were over $250.

Considering I paid what I paid for mine, I was having a REAL issue finding one I wanted to buy! Then I found the body…..

There is was a pretty flawless body, interesting color, one bridge pup, no neck, and for under $75. So I snagged it, then out of curiosity I looked at the guys “other items” and found the neck and several other pieces. So I was finally able to keep the total down to a reasonable under $150.

But I didn’t have EVERYTHING, and it wasn’t assembled, so I had a new PROJECT! (Like I NEEDED another project). Over the next few weeks I collected the rest of what I thought I’d need, and then the foundation kicked in:

And suddenly I have monitors EVERYWHERE! 15’s 17’ LOTS of 21 inchers! All for the good of a network lab to be DONATED to someone looking to teach! So as you can imagine, there it still sits, just WAITING for enough room on my workbench, and my 7 string to be finished, and my Tele II to get a neck shim and a…………….

So as you can see, it may be more than a few weeks away, but it will get done, I love these guitars and if you ever get the chance to play one, I think you probably will to! The one caveat of course is the LIC OFR. If you’re not used to a dibble Locking Trem this could be JUST the thing to make you lose your MIND! I remember my 1st string change, took 3 hours and sent me scurrying to the web….Maybe one day I’ll actually get BACK to the Ibanez RG 550, which is what I was shopping for when I found the Talon’s in the 1st place!
